We are aware that Maine residents are receiving an automated message or call from a person who is representing himself to be a state or local law enforcement officer, saying that they failed to appear for jury service at the Edward T. Gignoux building. The message requests a return call to reschedule the missed appearance. Oftentimes, the caller will create a sense of urgency and request a payment of a fine to avoid being arrested. Sometimes the caller may know some of your personal identifiers.
THIS IS A HOAX.
The court does not use law enforcement officers to contact jurors who have failed to appear for jury service. If you receive such a call, please terminate the call, do not provide any personal information, and notify the clerk’s office at 207-780-3356. The clerk’s office will share any information provided to federal law enforcement for investigation.
