KAREN FRINK WOLF SELECTED FOR U.S. MAGISTRATE JUDGE
The Judges of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine are pleased to announce that Karen Frink Wolf, Esq. has been selected to serve as U.S. Magistrate Judge. Attorney Wolf is a partner at the Verrill law firm in Portland, Maine, and a member of the firm’s Executive Board.
Attorney Wolf is a Fellow and current Regent of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She has been recognized by the Maine State Bar Association and the Katahdin Counsel Program for her extensive work in providing pro bono representation.
Attorney Wolf is a frequent speaker to the Bar and in the community on topics of trial practice, legal writing, family law, damages, and civil discourse. She has served on the State of Maine Judicial Branch Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure and the First Circuit Court of Appeals Rules Advisory Committee. She is also a former Adjunct Professor of Pretrial Practice at the University of Maine School of Law.
Attorney Wolf is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Syracuse University College of Law. Before her legal career, she was a legislative intern for U.S. Senator Warren B. Rudman. She is admitted to the practice of law in the Districts of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and the First Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Maine State Bar Association, New Hampshire Bar Association, and the Maine Association of Mediators.
A merit selection panel appointed by the Court, chaired by the Honorable Warren M. Silver, and composed of attorneys and other community members reviewed all of the applications, conducted interviews and recommended the applicants it considered best qualified for the position to the Court. The Judges of the Court met with each of the finalists before finally selecting Attorney Wolf for the position.
Subject to the completion of background investigation reports by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Internal Revenue Service, the Court will issue an order appointing Attorney Wolf as the next Magistrate Judge for the District of Maine. She will succeed U.S. Magistrate Judge John H. Rich, III, who will retire on April 1, 2022, following fourteen years of distinguished service. Magistrate Judges serve eight-year terms and may be reappointed by the Court following a review and recommendation by a Court-appointed merit selection panel.
