Court Operations Continuing

Monday, October 20, 2025

Beginning Monday, October 20, 2025, the federal judiciary, including the United States District Court for the District of Maine, no longer has sufficient funding for its operations due to the continuing lapse of congressional appropriations.  Despite that fact, the District Court for the District of Maine remains open and is operating during its normal business hours. The Court will continue only those parts of its operations that are necessary to carry out its constitutional duties.  The Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system continues to be available for electronic filings.  The Clerk’s Office remains open to accept paper filings and serve the public’s requests.   Criminal and civil cases will proceed as scheduled and in the regular course, with hearings as set and deadlines intact, unless the Court has indicated otherwise by order or by notice to the parties.
