Criminal Debt Payments Via Pay.gov

The United States District Court for the District of Maine is now accepting criminal debt payments via Pay.gov.

Pay.gov is a secure government website that allows individuals to electronically pay a bill owed to a U.S. government agency, such as a criminal debt obligation.  Pay.gov is managed by the United States Department of the Treasury, Financial Management Services.  Credit card payments are not permitted for criminal debt.  Individuals making payments may elect to create a Pay.gov account to store their payment information, manage payments, and view payment history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can make payments through Pay.gov?

Anyone who was sentenced by the United States District Court for the District of Maine can make a payment if they have a bank account or a debit card.

Note: If you were sentenced by a different U.S District Court (other than Maine) and your supervision was transferred to the District of Maine after December 1, 2023, you must send your criminal debt payments to the court that originally sentenced you.  Please visit that court’s website to find out if they accept payments through Pay.gov.  You can also search on Pay.gov to see if the court that originally sentenced you has a debt collection location with an electronic payment form similar to ours.

What types of payments can be made through Pay.gov?

All criminal debt payments—such as restitution, fines, special assessments, and other assessments—can be made through Pay.gov.

If you need to pay a fine for a ticket or petty offense committed on federal property, visit the Central Violations Bureau (CVB) section of the Court’s website for instructions. CVB payments cannot be made through the Court’s Pay.gov criminal debt payment portal.

Do I have to create an account?

No, you do not need to create an account.  However, you may choose to create one to save your payment information and make future payments more easily.

Note: As of November 2024, Pay.gov usernames and passwords will no longer be valid for any account reset and security questions (such as an attempt to retrieve your login).  Users will need to create a new login with ID.me or Login.gov.
