APPOINTMENT TO THE DISTRICT COURT LOCAL RULES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Honorable Nancy Torresen, Chief United States District Judge announces that attorney Elizabeth (Beth) G. Stouder, a partner with the Portland, Maine firm of Richardson, Whitman, Large & Badger has been selected by the Court to serve as the next Chair of the District Court Local Rules Advisory Committee.  Beth has been a member of the committee for several years.

Beth has been practicing law for more than thirty years in this District with a focus on civil and commercial litigation. She is managing partner of her firm, active in the Maine State Bar Association, the current President of the Maine Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a member of the Federal Bar Association.  She is a former member and panel chair of the state grievance commission, as well as the past president of the Tri-State Defense Association, a former Maine State Representative for DRI and was a member of the Gignoux Inn of Court for many years.

Elizabeth Stouder succeeds Leonard (Len) W. Langer who has served as the Chair of the District Court Local Rules Advisory Committee since 2010.  The Court is appreciative of Len’s constant service to the Court, the Committee, and the bar.  As a result of Len’s leadership, significant rules changes have been contemplated and adopted in meeting the needs of the Court and the bar in the practice of civil, criminal, admiralty and maritime law in this District. Len is a graduate of Colgate University and the University of Maine School of Law.  He clerked for Chief Justice Vincent L. McKusick and Associate Justice Charles A. Pomeroy of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.  He has been a member in good standing of the bar of this Court since 1979 and has appeared in nearly two hundred cases in this Court.
