How to Apply

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO PRACTICE

Local Rule 83.1 provides that any attorney who is of good personal and professional character, who is an active member in good standing of the bar of the State of Maine and who is not disbarred from or under a period of suspension in any court of record in the United States is eligible for admission to the bar of this Court.

In order to be admitted to the bar of this Court, each applicant must electronically submit a completed Application for Admission to Practice form and Sponsor Letter, using the PACER system at pacer.uscourts.gov. Once the court has reviewed the completed application and sponsor letter the Clerk’s Office will contact the applicant via email. If the application is approved, the email will include a link to pay the $199.00 admission fee via credit card and an Oath for the applicant to complete.

Please find detailed instructions below.

    • The application shall include the Applicant’s Maine state bar number and a certification that the Applicant has read and will comply with the Local Rules of this Court.
    • The application must also be accompanied by a letter from the Applicant’s sponsor, who must be a member of the Bar of this Court, moving for the Applicant’s admission and stating the reasons why admission is appropriate. Upon filing of the application and the letter, the Court will review the materials and act on the application.
