APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO PRACTICE

Local Rule 83.1 on admission of attorneys provides that any attorney who is of good personal and professional character, who is an active member in good standing of the bar of the State of Maine and who is not then disbarred from or under a period of suspension in any court of record in the United States is eligible for admission to the bar of this Court.

To be admitted to the bar of this Court, each applicant must:

  1. File an application in duplicate,
  2. Provide letters from two attorneys who are members of the bar of this Court which attest to the applicant's "good personal and professional character."
  3. Submit a fee of $150.00 (checks should be made payable to " Clerk, U. S. District Court").
  4. For admission ceremonies in:
    • Portland - Applications, together with the fee and letters, are to be sent to the Clerk, U.S. District Court, 156 Federal St., Portland, ME 04101
    • Bangor - Applications, together with the fee and letters, are to be sent to the Clerk, U.S. District Court, 202 Harlow St., Rm 357 Bangor, ME 04402

When all requirements have been complied with, applicants will be notified when to appear for admission. Although admissions will be moved by the U. S. Attorney or an Assistant U. S. Attorney, applicants are invited and encouraged to have a member of the bar of this Court support their admission by introducing the candidate to the judicial officers during the admission ceremony.
